Session details❋‘Charlas’: online conversation class on a Thursday evening
Book at least one day in advance for a fun, topic driven conversation.
There may be quizes. There may be music. There will definitely be fun!
Grab your tea, coffee, hot choc….or even something a little stronger… for a 45 minute conversation that will fly by - without leaving home!
These classes are designed for people who already have SOME Spanish and want to practise.
Each class is delivered using Zoom. (Set up instructions will be delivered when you book.)

¿Quién soy yo? (Who am I)
Have fun introducing yourself - and others in this first ‘Classes with Claire’ charla.
The topic gives us a theme for a conversation about who we are and what we do, what we enjoy. Classes with Claire brings the (fun) structure to keep the conversation flowing.
You just make yourself comfortable, grab a cuppa and turn up.
Notes:
Classes are via Zoom, so you’ll need to make sure you have access in advance. (We’ll send instructions)
Latecomers may join up to 10 minutes late, maximum.
If you miss a class we can change you another scheduled session on a one off basis.
It’s up to you if you want to look vocabulary up in advance - the more you put in, the more you’ll benefit. There’s no expectation, however - you’ll have the basics given to you.
I put the price down and made the class a little longer for this introductory class firstly so you can sample it, but also because it’s the first one and I’ll be testing the technology for this course live for the first time. If there’s no issues, great - my practise runs have worked - but technology is technology and you may be asked to bear with me.
Thursday June 25, 6.30pm - 45 mins
Who doesn’t love a good fiesta?
Even the smallest of Spanish villages will have a fiesta - a great excuse for a party.
And San Juan (June 24) is the ‘granddaddy’ of all fiestas.
The topic gives us a fabulous theme to talk about. Classes with Claire brings the (fun) structure.
You just make yourself comfortable and turn up to practise your Spanish - and as it’s a fiesta, maybe a Spanish rioja or a cheeky sangria could set the mood. Your choice - enjoy the class your way.

Thursday July 2, 6.30pm - 45 mins
It’s holiday season, and the bustle of the airport gives us plenty of scope to chat about travel.
So ‘the airport’ is the theme, the subject to start the discussion and get the conversation rolling.
Classes with Claire brings the fun structure, even if the average airport is mostly anything BUT fun!
Make yourself comfortable, strap up and join us for a 45 minute ‘flight’ - from passport control to baggage collection…. grab your boarding pass now!

You can’t go many places without paying - which offers us the perfect chance to go shopping, virtually!
Try out your Spanish as you negotiate the shops and markets of Spain, in Spanish! Whether you’re a shopaholic or just grab the basics and run, this class will help you feel confident about finding the bread in aisle three, asking what that weird vegetable in the market is, or finding the designer bargain of the year in the smart streets of Madrid or Barcelona.
The topic gives us a theme to work with. Classes with Claire brings the (fun) structure.
You just make yourself comfortable and turn up. Spend virtual millions or keep a tight clasp on your wallet - either way knowing how and what to pay is easier when you know how.

It’s Murphy’s Law. You’ve looked forward to your trip for what seems like forever - you get there and you feel ill.
How are you going to tell someone you’re ill? Who are you going to tell?
The topic gives us a theme. Classes with Claire brings the structure - I’d call it fun, but being unwell when you’re travelling is no laughing matter.
You just make yourself comfortable and turn up. No holiday insurance necessary!

It’s fabulous knowing what we know. We can ask for directions, a product, where something’s been put. And if we don’t know, there’s always Google Translate.
But accents and very fast talking can make understanding the answer hard for the non-native Spanish speaker. So how are we going to ask people to slow down or help us understand them better?
The topic gives us a theme for discussion. Classes with Claire brings the (fun) structure to help you ask for help without simply relying on pointed fingers or hoping someone else understood what they were saying.
You just make yourself comfortable and turn up - this is the one class where you deliberately get lost and work your way around it!

Advanced Speakers ‘Open Mic’
What’s that one thing you’re struggling with, or want to practise?
Is it the difference between ‘ser and estar’ or ‘por and para’?
Is it unravelling past tenses?
Let me know. I’ll consider putting on ‘ad hoc’ courses to meet those needs - if you’re struggling, someone else will be too!
